Chapter 4 - THE VOICE

I pulled the curtain back.
Nothing. Just white porcelain and a drain with a few strands of dark hair caught in the grate.
I let out a breath I didn't know I'd been holding. Laughed at myself. A nervous, ugly sound that echoed off the tiles.
Then I heard it.
A whisper. Coming from the living room.
"Jack..."
I turned. My flashlight beam cut through the darkness. The living room was empty. Same as I'd left it.
"Jack, help me..."
The voice was coming from the bedroom. From the closet.
I walked back. Slow. My knee screaming. My heart pounding so hard I could feel it in my throat.
The closet door was open. I'd left it open. I knew I'd left it open.
But now there was something inside.
May you like
A shape. Small. Crouched in the corner behind the hanging clothes.
"Please... don't let him find me..."
