Chapter 6 - THE PHOTOS
I sat on the floor of that closet for a long time. The girl wouldn't come out. Wouldn't let me touch her. Just rocked back and forth, whispering to herself.
I pulled out my phone. Googled Elena Vasquez.
Nothing. No social media. No news articles. No obituaries.
I tried a different search. Elena Vasquez death 2020.
Still nothing.
Then I tried the girl's description. Twelve years old. Dark hair. School uniform. Missing girl Crestview area.
The first result made my stomach drop.
Sophia Reyes, 12, disappeared from her home in 2019. Last seen wearing her St. Mary's school uniform. Case still open.
The photo was grainy. Black and white. But I recognized the face.
It was her. The girl in the closet.
I looked up. She was staring at me. Not crying anymore. Just watching.
"You're not real," I said.
