Chapter 12 - THE MAN WHO HID THE TRUTH

Thomas Reznik was alive.

He lived in a small apartment on the outskirts of the city. He didn't answer when I knocked. But he opened the door when I said my name.

He was older now. Thinner. A scar running from his ear to his chin.

"You came back," he said.

"I didn't know I left."

He let me in. We sat in his small kitchen. He made tea. His hands were steady.

"The room you found me in," I said. "There were others."

He nodded.

"Twelve. Maybe more. All of them patients. All of them forgotten."

"Where are they now?"

He looked at me. His eyes were sad.

"Still there. In the walls. In the rooms between the rooms."

"Why didn't you tell anyone?"

"I did. No one believed me. And then Vale found me. Threatened my family. I went into hiding."

He sipped his tea.

"But you. You were supposed to be different. You promised you would help."

"I'm sorry."

He set down his cup.

"It's not too late. There's one more room. The one Vale never wanted anyone to find."

"Where?"

May you like

He reached across the table. Took my hand.

"Where it all began."
