Chapter 6 - The Brother Who Hated Me

Julian woke with blood on his lip.
Eleanor sat across from him.
Hands tied.
“Mom?”
“Don’t move.”
He looked around.
Concrete walls.
No windows.
One steel door.
Then he saw the camera.
“Where are we?”
“I don’t know.”
Julian laughed bitterly.
“For once?”
Eleanor looked at him.
“What?”
“For once you don’t know everything.”
“Julian—”
“Amara is my sister?”
Eleanor closed her eyes.
He stared.
“You knew.”
“I suspected.”
“You knew.”
“I didn’t know she survived.”
“You watched me destroy her.”
Eleanor’s face hardened.
“She came after this family.”
“She is this family!”
That sentence silenced them both.
Julian leaned back against the chair.
Twenty years of being told he was the heir.
Twenty years of believing his father had been murdered.
Twenty years of Eleanor teaching him that money was protection.
And now—
Amara.
The woman he had tried to humiliate.
Cheat.
Destroy.
His twin sister.
The steel door opened.
A man entered.
Gray suit.
No expression.
Julian recognized him.
Robert Lang.
The federal supervisor.
“You.”
Lang smiled.
“Good. Saves introductions.”
Eleanor stared.
“You worked for Crane.”
“I work for whoever remains useful.”
Julian struggled against the restraints.
“What do you want?”
“Amara.”
“Why?”
Lang smiled.
“Because she’s the only person who can legally unlock the Vale Continuity Trust.”
Eleanor went pale.
“That trust was dissolved.”
“No.”
Lang leaned toward her.
“You tried to dissolve it.”
He looked at Julian.
“Your mother spent twenty years trying to make you the heir.”
Julian glared at Eleanor.
Lang continued:
“She poisoned your father because Vincent planned to find Amara.”
Eleanor whispered:
“Stop.”
“She forged the death declaration.”
“Stop.”
“She trained you to hate the sister she stole from you before you could even speak.”
Julian’s eyes filled with rage.
“Mom?”
Eleanor couldn’t look at him.
Lang smiled.
And Julian finally understood.
Amara hadn’t destroyed his family.
His mother had.
But before he could speak, Lang’s phone rang.
He answered.
Listened.
Then smiled.
“They’re coming.”
Eleanor looked up.
“Who?”
Lang glanced at the camera.
“Your daughter.”
