The custody hearing was closed to the public.
Maya wasn't there. She didn't need to be. But Karen called her afterward.
"I won," she said. "Full custody. He gets visitation every other weekend."
"That's good."
"It's the best outcome for the kids."
"I hope so."
"Maya."
"Yeah."
"Thank you. For not dropping the charges. For not letting him get away with it."
"I didn't do it for you."
"I know. But I'm grateful anyway."
