The blast wave threw them both to the pavement. Burning debris rained from the sky.

Marcus ignored his broken hand. He launched himself at Eleanor, pinning her throat to the asphalt.

"Were they inside?" he roared, squeezing her windpipe. "Were Sarah and Chloe inside?"

Eleanor laughed through bloody teeth. "They're safe. But the police are on their way."

Sirens wailed in the distance.

"The explosion destroyed my private server," she gasped. "All evidence of my offshore embezzlement. Poof. Gone. And the police will find you standing outside a garage with a dead cop and your taped confession."

Her designer purse spilled open on the asphalt.

A heavy linen document slid out. The header was stamped in red ink. A legally binding, irrevocable transfer of all Vance family assets into a blind trust.

Marcus tightened his grip. He was going to snap her neck.

A sharp, electrical crackle split the air.

Two metal prongs slammed into Marcus's back. Fifty thousand volts seized his muscles. He collapsed onto the pavement, his jaw locked in agony.

He managed to turn his head.
