By morning, the narrative had shifted. Bethany had "coerced" the recording. Zoe was "unreliable." The audio file was "corrupted."
Zoe was reassigned — to a remote weather station in the Aleutians. 12 months minimum. No explanation.

Bethany went to the Wing Commander. He listened. Then he said: "Finch has 28 years of service. Distinguished career. Your word — and one file — against his? It's not enough yet. Gather more. Be thorough. And be careful."
That evening, she found her flight bag on her porch. Unzipped. Her logbook was on the kitchen table when she got inside. Pages had been removed.
