Chapter 31 - Trevor Took the Pill Again
Trevor met Eli behind the locker rooms before their match.
“I didn’t take it.”
Eli pointed at his neck.
“Your veins are purple.”
“I know.”
Trevor looked terrified.
The Void stimulant was back in his system.
But he swore he had not touched a vial in weeks.
Priya tested him.
The metabolite concentration was higher than before.
Maya whispered, “Delayed release?”
Mr. Zhou’s face darkened.
“Seed contamination.”
The stimulants had left something behind.
Trevor’s body was producing the compound itself.
The match could trigger it.
Eli told him to withdraw.
Trevor shook his head.
“If I withdraw, Lucas wins.”
“This isn’t about Lucas.”
“It is for me.”
Trevor looked at Eli.
“I spent two years being an asshole because being better than people was the only thing I was good at.”
Eli blinked.
“That is surprisingly self-aware.”
“Shut up.”
They entered the ring.
For the first minute, Trevor fought clean.
Then the Void residue activated.
His qi exploded.
[WARNING]
[TREVOR CROSS — TEMPORARY QI GATHERING VII]
[MERIDIAN FAILURE IMMINENT]
Trevor charged.
Eli could dodge.
He could win by letting Trevor destroy himself.
The system presented two objectives.
[WIN MATCH]
[SAVE TREVOR]
The second reward was unknown.
Eli sighed.
“Of course being decent is harder.”
He stopped trying to knock Trevor out.
May you like
Instead, he started trying to keep him alive.
