Chapter 38 - Saving Lucas Was Extremely Annoying
Lucas was unconscious.
The Void root was not.
It dragged him inch by inch toward the broken floor.
Eli grabbed his arm.
Black qi burned his skin.
Maya anchored Eli with a talisman rope.
Jace anchored Maya.
Trevor anchored Jace.
For one ridiculous moment, half the tournament formed a human chain to save Lucas Vane.
Trevor shouted, “I hate this guy!”
Eli shouted back, “So do I!”
“WHY ARE WE SAVING HIM?”

Mr. Zhou attacked the Void root with sword qi generated from the broken broom handle.
It cut halfway through.
The root regenerated.
Elias said, “Eli. Your Void Resistance.”
He understood.
During the Trevor match, he had absorbed corrupted qi without losing himself.
Now he reversed the Beggar’s Loop again.
Black energy entered his meridians.
Pain became white noise.
The root weakened.
Lucas woke screaming.
“Get it out!”
Eli gritted his teeth.
“Working on it!”
The Void Seed surfaced beneath Lucas’s chest like a black marble.
Maya ripped it free with a sealing talisman.
The root snapped.
Everyone fell backward.

Lucas stared at Eli from the floor.
“You saved me.”
“Please don’t make it sentimental.”
The prison gate cracked again.
A massive eye opened in the darkness below.
Lucas whispered, “My father said it was dead.”
