Chapter 43 - Breaking Through During a Boss Fight
Eli had advanced too quickly all night.
His meridians ached.
His qi vortex shook.
Trying to break through again was stupid.
Which meant it fit the situation perfectly.
He activated the Beggar’s Loop at maximum speed.
Every broken light in the building became fuel.
Every vibrating steel beam.
Every pulse from the resonator.
Trash qi flooded him.
Too much.
Maya shouted, “Slow down!”
“No time!”
The ninth meridian circuit refused to open.
Victor sent another qi blade.
Eli used Flow Step.
The blade missed him and struck the wall.
The impact vibration entered the Beggar’s Loop.
His system flashed.
[RESOURCE IDENTIFIED: ENEMY ATTACK]
Eli grinned.
“Oh, that’s stupid.”
He let Victor attack again.
Not hit him.
Almost hit him.
Each impact generated energy he could steal from the environment.
Mr. Zhou realized what he was doing and started forcing Victor’s attacks toward Eli’s route.
Victor understood too late.
The ninth circuit opened.
Qi roared through Eli’s body.
[QI GATHERING IX]
[ALL 12 PRIMARY CIRCUITS: 9 COMPLETE]
[FOUNDATION ELIGIBILITY: PARTIAL]
Eli reached the resonator.
He slammed the Nine Vein Ring against its core.
Energy reversed.
Victor screamed.
The black qi feeding the city began flowing backward.
For one moment, victory seemed possible.
Then the resonator cracked.
Five distant lights appeared on the world map.
