Chapter 37 - Something Under the Arena Woke Up

The Black Lotus fragments had not only activated a trap.
They had opened a door.
Beneath the arena lay an old sealed chamber.
Black qi poured upward.
Spectators screamed.
Cultivators rushed for exits.
The tournament ward collapsed completely.
Lucas fell to his knees.
The Void entity inside him pulled toward the opening below.
Eli could see it now through Insight.
A black root connected Lucas’s core to something underground.
Victor Vane appeared on the screen again.
His calm was gone.
“Seal it!”
Eli laughed.
“You opened it!”
“I opened the fragment chamber, not that.”
Mr. Zhou jumped into the arena.
Maya followed with her injured arm in a sling.
“You’re supposed to be in medical,” Eli said.
“You’re supposed to stop getting into disasters.”
Fair.
The chamber below contained a massive stone gate covered in Black Lotus inscriptions.
Elias spoke clearly again.
“That is not a vault.”
“What is it?”
“A prison.”
Everyone stopped.
The inscriptions broke one by one.
Mr. Zhou’s face became grim.
“Evacuate the city block.”
Jace shouted orders to security.
Trevor helped move injured spectators.
Eli stared at Lucas.
The Void root tightened.
If it pulled him through the gate, whatever lived below would gain a host.
The system presented a quest.
[EMERGENCY QUEST]
Save Lucas Vane.
Eli stared.
“You cannot be serious.”
[REWARD: PREVENT APOCALYPSE.]

“Fine.”
