Victor Vane had disappeared during the arena disaster.
Now Eli knew where he went.
The Vane headquarters stood forty stories above downtown.
Its top floors were glowing black.
Mr. Zhou met Eli, Maya, Jace, and a very pale Lucas at the entrance.
Lucas stared at his family’s building.
“My father wouldn’t destroy the city.”
Trevor arrived behind them.
“Your father tried to turn me into a demon linebacker.”
Lucas looked at him.
“Fair.”
They climbed because the elevators were dead.
At floor thirty-two, corrupted guards attacked.
At thirty-six, they found a ritual chamber.
Seven empty pedestals formed a circle.
Two held jade fragments.
Eli’s.
Victor’s.
The system highlighted a device in the center.
[FRAGMENT RESONATOR]
Victor was trying to call the other five fragments.
Every pulse destabilized city wards.
Lucas whispered, “He thinks combining them will complete the Black Lotus intelligence.”
Elias answered, “It will.”
Everyone stared at Eli’s phone.
Elias continued.
“It will also release every sealed function.”
“What functions?” Maya asked.
“Some are not safe.”
Victor stepped from the far doorway.
Black qi surrounded him.
“You misunderstand safety.”
His cultivation finally appeared.

Eli was Qi Gathering VIII.
The gap felt impossible.
Victor smiled.
