Chapter 29 - The Heavenbreaker Legacy

I declined the quest.

The system did not argue.

That scared me.

[Quest declined.]

[Alternative unlocked: Kill the First Defier.]

[Reward: 10,000 years simulated cultivation.]

I declined that too.

[Alternative unlocked: Become the First Defier.]

"Stop."

The window vanished.

My mother laughed softly.

"Good."

She gave me the Heavenbreaker legacy the old-fashioned way.

No menu.

No instant mastery.

A breathing pattern so painful I nearly vomited.

A stance that made my legs shake.

A principle:

Never cultivate what you cannot explain.

I liked that one.

The technique let me see system influence inside my own qi.

Blue threads ran through everything the interface had helped build.

Not control exactly.

Guidance.

Pressure.

Paths made easier so I would keep choosing them.

I began cutting threads.

Each one hurt.

[System efficiency reduced: 98%]

[96%]

[93%]

The interface flashed red.

[Host damage detected.]

"My damage," I said. "My choice."

At 80%, the system stopped displaying predictions.

At 70%, Heaven's Debt vanished from the panel.

The debt was still there.

I could feel the storm above.

But now I could not see the number.

My mother smiled.

"Now you can make mistakes nobody has calculated for you."

Her echo began fading.

I reached for her.

"Wait. Who killed you?"

She looked at Fen.

Then at me.

"I did."

May you like

And disappeared.
