Chapter 50 - Candidate Seven
My mother had reached the same room.
Same table.
Same offer.
She refused ten thousand years of power and went home to raise me.
For six years, she hid from Heaven.
Then she died protecting the fragment inside my root.
I finally understood her choice.
Not weakness.
Not fear.
Priority.
I returned to the golden city without the simulated cultivation.
The Judge expected a god.
She got me.
That was enough.
The prohibited-root pillar was broken.
Across the realms, cultivators were discovering paths Heaven had hidden.
The Judge could not erase all of them at once.
Mira entered Heaven through the gate behind me.
Jace followed illegally.
Lyra came laughing.
Fen complained the entire climb.
Sable had grown large enough to coil around a tower.
Pebble immediately began eating architecture.
The Judge lowered her spear.
"What do you want?"
I looked across Heaven.
Not to destroy it.
People needed roads.
They just needed the right to leave them.
"Open the paths," I said. "All of them."
"And if we refuse?"
I smiled.
"Then we'll build new ones."
The system chimed softly.
No command.
No quest.
Just a message.
[Progress recorded: Kai Renn did something he could not do yesterday.]
I laughed.
Then six broken-halo symbols appeared in the sky.
One by one.
Candidate One.
Two.
Three.
Four.
Five.
Six.
My mother's symbol should have been dark.
It wasn't.
Candidate Six connected.
A woman's voice came through the system.
"Kai?"
Every part of me went still.
"Mom?"
The voice laughed exactly the way I remembered.
"You took your time."
May you like
And somewhere beyond Heaven, six impossible worlds opened their gates.
