Chapter 39 - Elder Veyr’s True Body

The hand pulled Lyra through.

I grabbed her wrist.

For one second we were both halfway inside the gate.

The world beyond was not hell.

It was a city.

Infinite towers beneath a white sky.

Millions of cultivation screens floating like windows.

At the center sat a man chained to a throne.

The First Defier.

And kneeling beside him was Elder Veyr.

Not mutated.

Not possessed.

Healthy.

Smiling.

"Welcome," Veyr said.

I understood.

The body we had fought was a vessel.

Veyr's true self had crossed years ago.

He had been managing Iron Lotus from the other side.

Lyra whispered, "You lied to me."

Veyr laughed.

"Everyone did."

The chained man opened his eyes.

They were blue.

System blue.

"Kai Renn," he said. "You carry my interface."

The system inside me answered for the first time without permission.

[CREATOR LOCATED.]

The First Defier smiled.

"Come closer."

No Rank activated by instinct.

For one breath, the creator could not see me.

His smile vanished.

I pulled Lyra back through the gate.

It slammed shut.

She collapsed beside me.

For the first time, my sister looked afraid.

"He isn't imprisoned," she whispered.

"What?"

"The chains aren't holding him in."

She looked at the sealed gate.

May you like

"They're holding Heaven out."
