Chapter 36 - Mira Falls
I reached Mira before the smoke cleared.
No pulse.
No breath.
Her Void Lotus was gone.
The system displayed a familiar kind of cruelty.
[Mira Sen]
[Status: Dead]
[Fate fulfilled.]
I stared at those last words.
Fate fulfilled.
After everything.
I opened the revival menu that appeared beneath her name.
[Restore ally?]
[Cost: Free Core]
My entire cultivation.
Everything.
Fen grabbed my arm.
"Kai, wait."
"No."
"The system wants your core."
"I know."
"That should tell you something."
He was right.
So I did not buy the revival.
I put my hand over Mira's heart and used Meridian Bite.
Not to consume.
To find.
There.
A silver thread.
Her soul had not left.
Heaven had simply declared her dead and closed the path back.
I bit the declaration.
The system flashed.
[INVALID TARGET]
I bit harder.
[Heaven's Debt: UNDEFINED]
Mira gasped.
The Void Lotus exploded back into existence.
She punched me weakly in the chest.
"Idiot."
I laughed until I cried.
Then the system went completely silent.
No windows.
No stats.
Nothing.
I had broken something.
May you like
And for the first time since Chapter One, I was alone inside my own head.
