Chapter 5 - The Girl in the Cage
The floor moved.
Not the bones.
The stone beneath them.
A circular section of the pit sank with a grinding sound.
A hidden staircase appeared.
The disciple under my foot went pale.
"That isn't supposed to open."
"You knew it was here?"
"No."
For once, I believed him.
The system displayed a new alert.

I looked at Sable.
Sable looked at me.
"Three percent isn't zero."
The disciple called me insane.
I tied him to the broken altar and went down.
The staircase ended in a chamber filled with iron cages.
Most were empty.
One was not.
A girl about my age sat inside with silver chains around her wrists. Her dark hair covered half her face.
She looked up.
"You're not Veyr."
"Best compliment I've had all day."
She stood.
The chains glowed.
My system went wild.

[Identity: Mira Sen]
[Realm: Suppressed]
[Predicted fate: Sacrificed in 6 days.]
Mira watched my expression.
"You can see it too, can't you?"
My heart stopped.
"See what?"
She smiled without humor.
