Blake expected Mason to bargain.
That had been Mason's old habit.
Ask nicely.
Offer something.
Make himself smaller.
Instead Mason walked forward and punched him.
RACK-SLAM PALM hit Blake in the chest.
The result was disappointing.
Blake moved half an inch.
Mason's hand went numb.
Blake smiled.

Golden qi exploded from his body.

Mason looked at the number.
"I've worked worse shifts."
Blake attacked.
Ivy threw her misfortune into the hallway lights.
Every bulb burst.
Thread Sight became Mason's only vision.
He saw Blake's gold fortune as a perfect river.
Perfect meant rigid.
Mason did not block the next punch.
He knocked a fire extinguisher off the wall.
Blake's fist hit it.
Metal ruptured.
White chemical powder exploded everywhere.
Mason used Empty Pocket Step, slipped behind him, and grabbed Tasha's badge.
[OBJECTIVE RECLAIMED WITHOUT DEFEATING SUPERIOR OPPONENT.]
[FORTUNE +11.]
Blake roared.
"She is in the old count room!"
Mason ran.
The count room was empty.
Only Tasha's phone sat on a table.
It played a live video.
Tasha was tied to a chair in an unknown basement.
Madam Zero stood behind her.
She looked into the camera.
"Bring me Ivy Chen before midnight," she said, "or your friend gets promoted to collateral."
