Chapter 41 - The House Burned Its Own Luck

House Vale chose scorched earth.

Rather than let regulators seize the Fate Well, Celeste's father began burning stored fortune.

The result spread across Chicago.

Good luck became violently concentrated.

One block had six winning scratch tickets.

Another suffered three freak accidents in ten minutes.

Probability was becoming unstable.

Mason opened his Karma Vault.

Still too small.

Celeste offered a solution.

"Use our reserve actuarial core."

"Your House's cultivation treasure?"

"If my father destroys it, everyone loses anyway."

They entered House Vale headquarters through a service elevator while employees evacuated.

At the core, Celeste confronted her father.

He called her weak.

Unworthy.

Ungrateful.

Mason recognized the tone.

Blake used to sound the same.

Celeste looked at Mason.

"Can your palm cut family contracts?"

He smiled.

"My favorite kind."

Debt-Cutting Palm severed the Vale succession covenant.

Celeste's cultivation dropped for one painful second.

Then rose higher without the House siphon.

She turned and destroyed her father's control seal herself.

The actuarial core stabilized.

[SECOND REGIONAL NODE LIBERATED.]

[GOLDEN WHEEL — MIDDLE STAGE.]

Pell watched the numbers settle.

"Seven nodes remain."

Mason groaned.

Celeste looked at him.

"Six."

Everyone turned.

She smiled.

"I know where House Mercer keeps its backup node."
