Chapter 6 - The Cheapest Cultivation Manual in Vegas

The Ledger did not accuse Tasha.

That was the good news.

The bad news was everything else.

Mason needed power, information, and somewhere Blake Mercer could not casually send gold-eyed security guards.

The system offered a shop.

[FORTUNE SHOP — BEGINNER INVENTORY]

[IRON SKIN ELIXIR: 30 FP]

[MINOR LUCK TALISMAN: 18 FP]

[HOW NOT TO DIE: A BEGINNER'S GUIDE TO FATE CULTIVATION: 4 FP]

Mason bought the guide.

It appeared as a stapled booklet in his hand.

The cover had a cartoon skeleton giving a thumbs-up.

Tasha read over his shoulder.

"Your mystical inheritance came from a discount printer?"

"Apparently immortality has budget tiers."

The booklet explained that ordinary cultivators absorbed ambient qi.

Fortune cultivators absorbed probability created when choices changed outcomes.

Rigged systems produced the richest fortune because overturning them created the biggest correction.

Mason grinned.

"So the universe pays me for ruining unfair games."

Tasha nodded. "Finally, a religion for customer-service workers."

A quest appeared.

[BEGINNER BREAKTHROUGH: OPEN 3 COPPER FATE MERIDIANS.]

[RECOMMENDED METHOD: CORRECT THREE RIGGED OUTCOMES.]

Then Tasha's phone buzzed.

Her casino schedule had changed.

She was assigned to a private baccarat room that night.

She frowned.

"I don't work baccarat."

Mason used Odds Sight.

A black thread wrapped around her name on the screen.

The Ledger flashed red.

[WARNING: HOUSE HAS SELECTED A BAIT ASSET.]

Mason looked at her.

"Congratulations. You've been promoted too."
