Chapter 7 - The Casino Used His Friend as Bait
Tasha wanted to call in sick.
The Ledger objected.
[IF BAIT FAILS TO REPORT, HOUSE WILL SELECT ANOTHER TARGET.]
Mason hated the wording.
"You're not an asset," he told her.
"Thank you. I was worried my health insurance had improved."
They made a plan.
Tasha would work the private room.
Mason would enter the casino through the public floor wearing a borrowed suit two sizes too big.
"You look like a divorced magician," Tasha said.
"That's still above dishwasher."
The moment Mason crossed the Aurora Crown's doors, the world changed.
Odds Sight revealed fortune everywhere.
Red threads around slot machines.
Gold threads around VIP elevators.
Black knots tied to certain gamblers who had already lost more than money.
At baccarat, Tasha dealt to four wealthy players and one silent old woman in white.
Blake stood behind them.
Mason approached.
Blake smiled.
"Back already?"
"I heard the employee discount was terrible, so I'm here as a customer."
The old woman looked at Mason's pocket.
"Lou chose poorly," she said.
Every card on the table turned face-up by itself.
The Ledger screamed.
[HIGHER REALM CULTIVATOR DETECTED.]
[DO NOT PROVOKE.]
Mason looked at the woman.
She smiled.
"Sit."
A new quest appeared.
[SURVIVE ONE HAND AGAINST MADAM ZERO.]
[WINNING IS NOT REQUIRED.]
Mason sat down.
Madam Zero whispered, "It should be."
