Chapter 44 - Tasha Got the Worst Class
The rescue stabilized the node and awakened Tasha.
She was furious.
Her class appeared in glowing blue letters.
[CLASS: CHAOS SUPPORT — RARE.]
[PRIMARY ATTRIBUTE: AUDACITY.]
[STARTING SKILL: SAY THE WRONG THING — DISRUPTS ENEMY CONCENTRATION.]
Mason laughed until he had to sit down.
Tasha pointed at the Ledger.
"I want a refund."
[DENIED.]
Her second skill was Folding Chair Familiarity.
That made it worse.
Even Ivy laughed.
Then the backup node revealed a hidden data route.
The Central Clearinghouse was not located in one city.
It moved.
Every twenty-four hours, its core migrated between the remaining regional nodes through a network of fate contracts.
Destroying nodes one at a time would take months.
Pell arrived at the chapel with a different plan.
"Force a settlement conference."
Mason stared.
"With the people stealing everyone's luck?"
"Yes."
"Why would they agree?"
Pell looked at Blake.
"Because the Mercer heir survived possession. He can testify that Central violated House law."
Victor laughed bitterly.
"You want to sue Heaven."
Pell corrected him.
"I want to subpoena it."
Tasha wiped tears from her eyes.
"I love this guy."
