Chapter 50 - The Broke Dishwasher Became a Founder

Three months after being fired, Mason returned to the Aurora Crown kitchen.

Not as an employee.

Blake walked beside him carrying two boxes of refunded wage claims.

Every worker whose fortune had been illegally harvested through Mercer contracts received compensation.

Tasha made Blake personally hand out the checks.

"This is humiliating," he muttered.

Mason smiled. "Growth."

Ivy took over an independent Fate Well cooperative that paid contributors instead of draining them.

Celeste rebuilt House Vale's risk network under public karmic audits.

Pell became the Common Network's chief auditor and somehow looked happier than anyone should while reviewing compliance forms.

Raymond expanded the wedding chapel into a legal sect headquarters.

Tasha named it The Folding Chair Pavilion.

Nobody could stop her.

Mason stood behind the same dish station where Blake had fired him.

His status floated quietly.

[NAME: MASON REED]

[REALM: GOLDEN WHEEL — PEAK]

[CLASS: HOUSELESS FOUNDER]

[FORTUNE: 742]

[NET WORTH: NO LONGER EMBARRASSING]

[PLANETARY DEBT: ???]

He picked up a clean twenty-dollar plate.

Tasha watched nervously.

"Don't drop it."

Mason dropped it on purpose.

It shattered.

Everyone stared.

He grinned.

"I always wanted to do that."

Then the ceiling disappeared.

Not broke.

Disappeared.

A night sky filled with enormous white chains opened above Las Vegas.

One chain descended toward Mason.

The Bankrupt Immortal's Chip burned black in his palm.

The Ledger spoke for the first time in an actual voice.

"Collection has begun."

Mason looked at his friends.

Tasha picked up her folding chair.

Ivy smiled.

Blake sighed.

Mason faced the sky.

"Okay," he said. "But I'm disputing the charge."
