Chapter 31 - The Auction of Impossible Things
Before Mason could worry about eight cities, he needed a Golden Wheel breakthrough material.
Raymond knew where to find one.
The Midnight Auction.
It operated once a month inside a convention hall that looked empty to normal people.
Inside, cultivators bid on impossible objects.
A watch that stole seven seconds from tomorrow.
A bottle of rain collected during a cloudless storm.
A baseball signed by a dead player three years after his death.
Tasha wanted everything.
They had almost no spirit credits.
Then the auctioneer announced Lot 44.
A cracked jade casino die.
Lou Avery's personal breakthrough relic.
Mason stood.
Victor Mercer stood at the same time.
Bidding began at one million spirit credits.
Mason had twelve thousand.
"We are slightly underfunded," Ivy whispered.
The Ledger opened.
[SPECIAL AUCTION FUNCTION: BID FORTUNE YEARS.]
Mason frowned.
One Fortune Year meant sacrificing a year of statistical good luck.
Victor bid five million.
Mason bid one Fortune Year.
The room went silent.
Victor laughed. "Idiot."
Then Madam Zero raised her paddle.
"Two Fortune Years."
Mason realized the auction was not about money anymore.
Everyone wanted to see how much of his future he would risk for Lou's past.
