Chapter 21 - Training With a Wedding Elvis
Raymond had seventy-two hours to turn Mason from "hard to kill accidentally" into "difficult to kill on purpose."
His training method was unusual.
He activated the chapel's animatronic Elvis and made it attack Mason with padded nunchucks.
"Why does Elvis know kung fu?"
"Don't question the arts."
Mason dodged.
Badly.
Empty Pocket Step improved each time he escaped an improbable hit.
Ivy trained his Thread Sight by throwing playing cards at him from blind angles.
Tasha handled motivation.
"If you die, I'm taking your hotel compensation."
By day two, Mason could see the fortune generated before a movement fully committed.
Not the future.
Intent becoming probability.
He learned to strike that moment.
[RACK-SLAM PALM → HOUSEKEEPER'S REVERSAL PALM.]
Mason objected to the name.
The Ledger ignored him.
Raymond finally taught him one real xianxia technique.
"Fortune follows breath. Breath follows intent. Intent follows the lie you tell yourself about what you can survive."
Mason frowned. "That sounded profound until the end."
"Most cultivation advice does."
On the third night, Mason broke through.
[REALM: SILVER THREAD — EARLY STAGE.]
Silver light filled his meridians.
Then the trial roster appeared.
First opponent: Blake Mercer.
Tasha looked at Mason.
"Well. That's convenient."
Mason smiled.
"For me or him?"
