Chapter 30 - He Ate the House Edge
The golden wheel tried to turn Mason into another battery.
That was how the Nine Houses survived.
Every rebel became fuel eventually.
Lou had failed here once.
Mason understood why.
You could not hold an entire city's stolen fortune alone.
So he stopped trying.
He opened the Karma Vault outward.
Not to the Nine Houses.
To everyone.
Fortune exploded through the city.
A thousand tiny corrections happened at once.
A woman found the engagement ring she thought she had lost.
A mechanic caught a brake failure before a family drove away.
A job application landed on the right desk.
A tired nurse looked up at exactly the right moment.
Nothing miraculous.
Just possibilities returned to the people living them.
The wheel cracked.
The Ledger roared.
[HOUSE EDGE REVERSAL ACHIEVED.]
[REALM BREAKTHROUGH: SILVER THREAD — PEAK.]
[FOUNDATION CONDITION MET FOR GOLDEN WHEEL.]
Then the node exploded.
Mason woke three hours later in a convenience-store parking lot with Tasha pouring sports drink on his face.
"Why?"
"I panicked."
Ivy sat nearby, exhausted but smiling.
The city's fortune flow looked normal again.
Then Mason checked the Ledger.
[LAS VEGAS NODE DESTROYED.]
[NINE HOUSES CONTROL: 8 REMAINING REGIONAL NODES.]
"Eight?"
Raymond handed him a map of the United States.
Eight cities glowed gold.
Mason groaned.
"I thought this was a local problem."
